She added so much to women’s sports, women’s lives, and women’s basketball at UT. Pat’s story is compelling, bittersweet, uplifting, and inspirational. ![]() Much of the storied career presented in Pat XO is told by former players, coaches, friends, and her only child Ross Tyler Summitt who played as a walk-on for the Tennessee men’s basketball team and is now serving as an assistant coach for the Marquette University women’s basketball team. ![]() On top of that, she is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history of either a men’s or women’s team in any division.Īs you may know Pat was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s in August of 2011 and stepped down as head coach on April 18, 2012. During her career which spanned 38 years (1974-2012) her teams won 8 NCAA National Championships, 16 SEC titles, and over 1,000 games. A moving story about a hard-nosed, determined women’s basketball coach who started her career at the University of Tennessee at age 22 and became one of the winningest coaches in the history of the game. I watched “Pat Summitt XO” on ESPN’s NINE for IX series a few nights ago. ![]()
